MHS Culinary Showcase

Advanced culinary students at Memorial High School put their skills to the test through the Restaurant Development Project, a capstone experience that brings together everything they have learned over three years in the culinary program.

As part of the project, students created an original restaurant concept from start to finish. Each team developed a restaurant name and location, designed a menu, created advertisements and a 3D model of their restaurant, and prepared an original recipe to showcase their culinary skills.

Students presented their projects to school staff and administrators during lunch, giving guests the opportunity to learn about each concept and sample student-prepared dishes.

During the presentations, Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez, Deputy Superintendent Phillip Chavez and EISD Police Chief Jesse Quiroga visited the campus and stopped by to speak with students, view their work, and sample some of the food. Their visit highlighted the real-world learning and creativity taking place in Memorial High School’s culinary program.

“The students were honored to have Dr. Hernandez hear about and sample their creations,” says culinary instructor, Chef Megan Tapia. “They were happy to have him see the hard work they put into these projects.”

The Restaurant Development Project gives students valuable hands-on experience in culinary arts, business planning, and teamwork and prepares them for future careers in the hospitality and food service industries.
