Campus Newsletter-updated 4/23/24
Principal Message
I hope this message finds each of you in good health and good spirits. The 5th six-weeks of school are over, and we are now beginning our 6th six-weeks of the school year.
I am very proud to share that our students and staff have been working hard at preparing for our End of Course state assessments. I want to thank our families for supporting our students and emphasizing being in school every day. During the next few weeks, our students will continue to prepare for different EOC state assessments, as well as Advanced Placement (AP) exams, college final exams, and high school semester exams. In addition, students will be taking their end of year MAP test starting on May 13, 2024. This exam is critical in determining our student growth in reading, math, and science, so please emphasize to your students that they take this exam seriously.
During the month of may we celebrate our amazing teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, which will be May 6th through May 10th. I ask that you please take time to thank our amazing teachers by sending positive emails and special treats throughout the week. I want to thank our teachers and staff for choosing to serve our Minutemen Community and for going above and beyond to support our students and community.
Finally, we begin the time of year that our senior students begin celebrating their K-12 journey which will culminate at our wonderful graduation ceremony. Our seniors will be celebrating their prom, senior panoramic picture day, walking the halls of their elementary school, and other activities. I am looking forward to seeing our Class of 2024 students enjoy these special days with their classmates, teachers, and families.
We want to remind parents about the importance of attending school, so that student don’t lose credit due to excessive absences. Students who pass their classes, but do not comply with the 90% attendance will not receive credit until their attendance hours have been made up. Students who have questions about their credits should see an assistant principal or counselor during lunch. In addition, students who received a grade of 69 or below for a course after the first semester is eligible for credit recovery. Students should see their counselors about credit recovery opportunities that are available during the school day, during night school Monday through Thursday, and during Saturday School.
Our Memorial staff is committed to supporting each student and family we serve, so please reach out to us if you need any assistance. In collaboration with our families, we ask that parents support their child by:
- Making sure your child is in school by 8:10, and remind your child to attend all classes.
- Communicating with our staff when your child will be absent.
- Having your child join a club or organization.
- Checking in on your child's academic progress and communicating with our staff if assistance is needed.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting your family through out the year. Please fill free to contact me if you need assistance. I can be reached at 210-898-4110 x 8301 or at miguel.elizondo@eisd.net . Blessings to each of you and your families.
Respectfully,
