Meet the Librarian

Welcome to Memorial High School Library!  My name is Catherine Bernstein.  I am a certified Librarian.  I graduated with my MLS from Sam Houston State University in August 2011.  Prior to becoming a high school librarian, I taught elementary school, primarily in grades 1 and 2, although I also taught one year of third grade and half a year of 5th.

I am a single mother
of four grown children, two of whom still live at home.  My mother shares a home with us as well.  I grew up close to this side of town, attending Pat Neff Middle School and Sunset Hills Elementary School (now Glass Elementary).  I graduated from Clark High School.  I received my Bachelor’s degree from UTSA, and also attended San Antonio College.

The Library Aide class is a not-for-credit class in which students learn about the library, develop
library and office skills, and assist other library patrons with various tasks.

Specifically, at the end of this class you will know about censorship; the Dewey Decimal Classification System; library policies, procedures, and resources; circulation and shelf maintenance.  You will be able to assist patrons with location of library materials and will be able to communicate effectively with all patrons.  You will be well-versed in the use of Microsoft Office 365.
